About PocketBack

PocketBack sits on your side of the table, especially the ones tilted against you.

Your insurance company sends a settlement offer. A hospital billing office says you owe money. Your county assessor puts a value on your home. A landlord keeps part of your deposit. A benefits office sends a letter full of rules and deadlines.

They know their paperwork. You shouldn't have to become an expert overnight just to understand yours.

PocketBack makes the complicated parts easier. We create plain-language kits that explain what you're looking at, help you organize your information, and walk you through what to do next.

Every kit includes a step-by-step PDF guide, an editable workbook with worksheets and trackers, and letter templates you can make your own. There's also a companion chapter that shows your own AI tool what to look for, so you can ask sharper questions as you go.

The goal is simple: less confusion, less starting from scratch, and a clearer path forward.

Why PocketBack exists

Every kit starts from the same imbalance.

The document in front of you was written by the other side: the insurer, the hospital, the county, the landlord, the agency. It uses their words, their forms, and their deadlines. Most people see it for the first time at the exact moment it matters most.

PocketBack exists to even that out.

Think of a kit as a knowledgeable friend at your elbow. It translates the document into plain language, helps you check it against your own records, and lays out the next step you can take, with the right information and your deadline in view.

And when we tell you to find something, we'll help you figure out where to get it. Need your insurance valuation report, an explanation of benefits, or your county's property record? You should know what to ask for, where to look, and how to request it.

You shouldn't need insider knowledge to ask a good question, spot a mistake, or get a straight answer.

That's why we're here.

Who PocketBack is for

PocketBack is for anyone who's ever opened an official-looking letter, stared at a number, and wondered, "Is that right?"

It's for the driver who wants to make sure a totaled-car offer reflects what their vehicle is worth.

The patient who wants to understand why the hospital bill doesn't match the insurance explanation.

The renter who wants to get as much of their security deposit back as they're entitled to.

The homeowner who wants to make sure they're not paying property taxes based on an inflated assessment.

The worker who wants to make sure their paycheck is right, or understand what to do after an unemployment denial.

And the person making a Medicare or Social Security decision who wants the options explained before making a choice.

These aren't small things. A Federal Trade Commission study found that about 1 in 20 consumers had a credit report error that could affect the terms of credit they receive. Zillow's 2024 renter survey found that 24% of recent renters who had moved from another rental received none of their previous security deposit back. And in J.D. Power's 2025 auto claims study, only 58% of customers who experienced a total loss said the vehicle valuation fully met their expectations.

Not every surprising number is a mistake. Not every charge can be challenged. But when your money is involved, understanding the details matters.

You shouldn't have to spend days figuring out where to begin. PocketBack gives you a place to start, a way to keep everything together, and a clearer idea of what comes next.

How it works

Start with free help.

Our free guides explain common problems, one document at a time, with examples you can follow.

You can also try the free Everyday Money Checkup, a 24-point checklist covering six documents you may already have at home: your credit report, property tax assessment, security deposit statement, Social Security statement, IRS letter, and medical bill with its explanation of benefits.

No cost. No account required. Just a practical way to see what might deserve a closer look.

Choose the kit that fits your situation.

Each kit walks through one specific problem. You'll get:

Where a step requires another document, we'll point you toward where to find it or how to request it.

Take the next step with something in your hands.

Instead of wondering what to say, what to gather, or what to check first, you'll have a plan you can follow and materials you can use.

You decide what to send and when. PocketBack makes it easier to get there.

What you can expect from us

We'll tell you what a kit can help with, and we'll be clear about its limits.

Our kits are educational tools, not legal, tax, or financial advice. They help you prepare and organize your own response, but we don't file claims, contact companies, or represent you. And we won't promise a particular refund, payout, or decision.

If your situation has already reached court or a filing deadline has passed, we'll help you recognize when it's time to look beyond a kit and turn to an official agency or qualified professional.

We also don't buy positive reviews or trade rewards for praise. We welcome honest feedback, whether it's glowing or critical.

Find the help that fits

There are currently 26 PocketBack kits, each focused on a specific paperwork problem.

Individual kits cost $19 to $49, depending on the topic. You can choose just the one you need, without buying anything else.

If you're dealing with several related issues, our four bundles bring useful kits together for $109 to $149. That means fewer separate purchases and the right materials together when you're sorting through more than one problem.

Want access to all 26? The complete collection is $250, so you can keep the guides, workbooks, and templates available for different situations as they come up.

And some help should simply be free.

Our job-loss guide includes six worksheets to help you get organized after losing a job. It's free from beginning to end because the last thing you need that week is another expense.

Our first state unemployment appeal edition, for Ohio, is published and available now for $39. Each state edition is checked against that state's own rules and procedures before it is released, so you can follow instructions that reflect where you actually live, and more states follow as each one clears the same checks.

A purchase should feel comfortable, too.

If a kit isn't what you expected, email us within 30 days and we'll refund your purchase.
